Brides in Black

Brides in Black is Mary Ann Mulhern’s follow-up to her popular first book of poetry, The Red Dress. In The Red Dress, Mulhern explores her own experience living in a convent for eight years and her ultimate decision to leave. Brides in Black picks up where The Red Dress leaves off, with the nuns who stayed behind. Mulhern uses her signature minimal and narrative poetic style to draw readers into the stories of nuns who remained in the convent, those who ultimately left, and the changing face of convent life in Canada.
