Congratulations to Black Moss publisher Marty Gervais who was yesterday named the first ever Poet Laureate of Windsor.
Here’s a snippet of what The Windsor Star had to say:
“He’s a great storyteller, and he’s going to be telling Windsor’s story,” said Coun. Jo-Anne Gignac, who originally pushed for the position.
City council on Monday night announced the Gervais appointment, which comes with an annual $2,500 honorarium. There were seven nominees, all locally published writers, for the two-year job as Windsor’s literary ambassador.
“We’re going to enjoy him,” said Gignac. She said council will host Gervais on special occasions, and he is also expected to reach out to students, seniors and other groups in the community.
Gervais said he was excited by the appointment.
“I’m pretty pumped by it, I think,” said Gervais.
