The Mission

$29.95

The Mission is a photographic study of Windsor’s Downtown Mission in the midst of the Covid pandemic. The city’s homeless gather around an old church in the heart of the city, and at the night’s end, they leave behind a scattering of grocery carts, bits of clothing, broken bicycles wheels or tires, and needles. Douglas MacLellan, the former Hockey Hall of Fame photographer, and social activist, spent some eight months getting to know these individuals, and in this book tells their stories in both photographs and text. The book peels back the “human side” of a dilemma that challenges most cities and towns of people living on the edge, people whose once-comfortable lives have turned desperate. MacLellan discovers a back story to these individuals. The problems aren’t going away. The Mission’s door is open — it is there to help, to keep an open mind, lend a hand.
